Converting SOL to USDT is one of the most common ways to take profit or step out of market volatility while staying in crypto. The process is quick, but one decision matters more than any other: which USDT network you want to receive on.
1. Decide where your USDT should go
USDT exists on several networks. Pick the one your wallet or exchange accepts:
- Solana (SPL) — stay on Solana; very low fees. Your existing Solana wallet can hold it.
- Tron (TRC20) — widely accepted by exchanges and payment services; addresses start with
T. - BNB Smart Chain (BEP20) or Ethereum (ERC20) — addresses start with
0x.

2. Get the quote and check the final amount
A good quote shows the SOL/USDT rate, the service fee, the network fee to deliver your USDT and the exact amount you will receive. On our exchange this rate is fixed for a set time once you create the order, so a price move while your deposit confirms does not change what you get.
3. Send SOL from your wallet
Send the exact amount of SOL shown to the deposit address. Solana fees are tiny, but keep a small SOL balance in your wallet afterwards: Solana accounts need a minimum balance to stay open, and you will need SOL for any future transfer, including sending your new USDT if you receive it on Solana.
4. Receive your USDT
Solana usually confirms in seconds, so the deposit is detected almost immediately. The USDT is then sent on the network you chose. Total time is typically a few minutes; network congestion on the receiving side can add a little more.
Using an exchange vs a swap service
On a centralised exchange you deposit SOL, sell it on the SOL/USDT market and withdraw USDT, which usually requires an account and identity verification. A swap service does the conversion in one step: you send SOL and receive USDT at the address you provide, without an account.
Things to double-check
- The USDT network matches your receiving address.
- Your receiving address belongs to you and is copied, not typed.
- You are sending native SOL, not wrapped SOL (wSOL) or another token.
- You have enough SOL left for future fees.
Taxes
In many countries, converting one crypto asset into another — including into a stablecoin — can be a taxable event. Keep a record of the date, amounts and transaction hashes, and check the rules where you live.

SOL price moves fast
SOL is a volatile asset, and its price can move several percent within an hour. That is why the rate type matters: with a fixed rate, the USDT amount is locked when you create the order, as long as your deposit arrives within the time window. With a floating rate, you receive whatever the market gives when the swap is executed. If the fixed window expires before your SOL arrives — for example because an exchange withdrawal took too long — the order is usually re-quoted at the current price or refunded.
Sending SOL from an exchange
If your SOL is on a centralised exchange, you can withdraw it straight to the deposit address shown in your order. Choose the Solana network in the withdrawal screen and send the exact amount. Remember that the exchange deducts its withdrawal fee from what you send, so add that on top if the order requires an exact amount to arrive.
Staked SOL
Staked SOL must be deactivated before it can be moved, which takes until the end of the current Solana epoch — usually a couple of days. Liquid staking tokens such as mSOL or jitoSOL are different tokens from SOL and cannot be sent to an order that expects native SOL.
